Tea Bag Epiphany…
I shouldn’t even admit that I didn’t know this. But here goes…
You can take the tag on your teabag string and wrap it around the handle of your mug like an anchor so your teabag stays in place AND the tag doesn’t slide into the tea!
I didn’t know this. Seriously… I did NOT know this! What? I grew up with coffee people.
Went On a Tea Bender
Last week I went on a tea bender. (Yes, that’s a thing). I considered it a tea bender because I bought 19 boxes of tea.
In my defense, I miss my favorite brands of tea they don’t sell here in Australia. And, I haven’t had a chance to try everything they DO sell to establish new favorites.
The random $1 a box clearance sale I manifested was my moment to act!
I normally make an entire pot of tea in a coffee maker – but with so much variety, I could test them faster making individual mugs.
I made my mug of tea like I always did, by holding the tag with my finger, so it didn’t slide into the hot water – and then I saw it…
I could just knot the tag onto the handle to hold it!
I was suddenly in the middle of a musical in my kitchen. The sunlight shone brighter and I literally cackled (do you see how honest I am with you? I could’ve said I laughed or giggled which is WAAY more dignified but no, it WAS a cackle…).
It took me a full minute before I realized that everyone else in the world MUST already know this. I had just tumbled onto the Holy Grail of happy tea drinking like it was a state secret… only… it’s totally not.
The Lesson of My Teabag Tag
What did this teach me?
Somethings you have to discover for yourself because of how they’ll make you FEEL when YOU discover them.
During the course of an average year, in my coaching posts, I give away tens of thousands of dollars of life-changing material. Some of you, will have an aha moment 2, 6 or even 10 years from now on something I told you three years ago.
But since it’ll be YOUR moment, the discovery will feel amazing, unresisted and NEW – even though the information was already “out there”.
This is normal and human, even if having to wait until YOU can ‘discover it’ yourself is frustrating, inefficient and emotionally expensive.
You can speed it up by praying that you be open to your good and your breakthroughs. You really just don’t know, what you don’t know right now.
So ask to be surprised and delighted (and allow for being traumatized and crushed). Some of these flashes of insight ain’t pretty. Not much is as easy as a teabag tag unfortunately.
When you get a fun discovery, milk it. (They all put milk in their tea over here – which I’m sorry, is just WRONG). When you get a hard one, ride it out.
When your epiphany comes ‘from’ you, you’ll follow it…
P.S. When you stumble into a tiny moment of magic, pause. I looked out the window and realized that one of our yard Roos has had a baby! She’s clearly got a Joey in her pouch. And there was just a single moment of me and my husband looking at her in silence. I felt proud and protective and a tiny bit awed.
When you hit a magic moment, stay with it. They are fragile. Don’t make a joke. Don’t move. Don’t reach for the camera until it fades. It’s called “savoring”.
