Kill This Idea
If you can kill the idea (& very subtle desire) that someone ELSE change in order to make YOU happy, you are on the path to guruhood! Seriously. This one idea is a beast.
You’d be soo much happier if we…had a different president, your kids took school seriously, your husband LISTENED to what you worry about. Yep. I know.
Kill this idea! Change your mind, that changing someone ELSE, is the way to happiness. It’s an insidious belief that you got from your parents before you had any opinions.
If you NEED someone else to change in order to be happy, you are screwed. Even if the change you “need” is GOOD for them, you still cannot control them.
Assignment: Just start noticing how often you are wanting, thinking, asking or demanding someone to change so your nest is better feathered. If you can stop expecting their unlikely, outside changes will give you unearned, INSIDE change, you will feel HAPPIER.
Right now, you don’t know how much ENERGY you expend trying to control other people. When you stop, you’ll have a surplus of your own energy…drumroll…for YOU!
Don’t rationalize why their “change” would be a good thing for them. They don’t. Want. To. Change.
Same Idea – Different Target
I started with the harder version of a belief you want to shift for happiness. Try this one.
Stop demanding that YOU change to be happy.
Please figure out how to be happy WHILE still poor, overweight, alone, in a bad job and fighting with your mother.
Life is not guaranteed people. Stop setting happiness off into the mystical future. Change your mind about the conditions you need to be happy right now.
Assignment: What is in the way of me being happy in this very minute?
You’ll discover that most of your big, floating issues don’t really stop you from being happy in this exact MOMENT. You might just need to pee. Or grab a drink of water or take off your heels. I guarantee you that you can be happy over the next minute before maxing your yearly IRA contribution this year.
It is your THINKING that keeps you happy or unhappy. If you spend even 24 hours noticing where you place conditions on yourself before you can “feel happy”, you’ll be surprised. If you are trying to change your life, keep track of these Change You or Change Me demands for a week. 🙂
Want More Happiness? Change How You Keep THINKING
P.S.I want you to start believing that happiness is NOT earned. I want you to start believing that happiness IS within your control. I want you to start believing that happiness is very often about the perspective you choose to take versus habitually fall into. I cannot image a greater shortcut to happiness than freeing yourself from thinking that guarantees unhappiness. Once you start feeling happier, your vibration will shift and things outside of you lighten up too! Practice being happy right now.
